About Our Scheme
Charity Home-Start North East Worcestershire offers support to families across Redditch and Bromsgrove who are struggling to cope since 1989. Volunteers provide non-judgemental, practical and emotional support and help build the family’s confidence and ability to cope and prevent family breakdown. We also offer a range of support services delivered by qualified, trained professionals.
How do we support families?
We recruit train and supervise volunteers to support parents and children. The volunteers have been parents themselves or understand family life; understanding the pressures, difficulties and stresses as well as the joy and fun that a family can bring.
Through their initial 40 hours of preparation, volunteers learn about the Home-Start ethos and approach, understand the needs of parents and children’s development, how to use their listening skills and the requirement for confidentiality and safeguarding and promoting the welfare of children.
Our support is free and available to any parent who pays their council tax to Redditch or Bromsgrove and has a child up to the age of 18 or is expecting a new baby.
We support on average 250 families each year, 600 children and 90 volunteers.
